The roof was updated to clay tiles in 1748. Inside the oak beams, doors and pantry remain as they were up to 400 years ago. Lilac Farm combines the beauty of a traditional beamed farm cottage with modern facilities. The original yard of the farm offers safe off-road parking. Children are very welcome and pets or horses can be catered for by prior arrangement. We have two double rooms and a family room which can be opened up to join one of the double rooms, sleeping up to six people.. One room has an en suite toilet and all have wash hand basins, TV and tea / coffee making facilities. You are assured of a warm welcome, whether you are coming for business or pleasure. Start the day with a superb full English breakfast, freshly prepared to your requirements from local produce. We are happy to cater for special diets with prior notice. If you have to make a very early start, or if you prefer, a packed lunch may be substituted for breakfast. Location Set in the historic village of Laxton where strip farming is still practiced, Lilac Farm is only 5 miles from the A1. It offers easy access to open countryside including a network of footpaths through the Open Fields and to the motte & bailey castle. Lilac Farm is near Sherwood Forest - Robin Hood Country, close to the Nottinghamshire / Lincolnshire border and is convenient for Southwell Minster and Lincoln Cathedral as well as the market towns of Retford and Newark on Trent. Newark Showground and nearby Swinderby are an antique collector’s paradise, staging world famous Antiques Fairs several times a year. Eating Out The area is renowned for its excellent pub food. ‘The Dovecote’ is only 5 minutes walk away. There are other public houses and good quality restaurants within easy reach catering for all tastes.
